Holy Spirit Catholic Church issued the following announcement on Aug. 16

It seems like we celebrate Mary a lot in the Catholic Church. We do. August 15 and August 22 are two Marian feast days that land only a week apart. On the 15th, her Assumption into Heaven is celebrated, and on the 22nd, her Queenship is celebrated.

Mary, as a very unique creation, is the mother of all the living, the new Eve. As our mother, she is mystically connected to us and leads us. At the Assumption, she is taken up body and soul into heaven, showing us Christians that not only our souls will go to heaven, but also our bodies. Our bodies will be glorified like the Resurrected Christ’s body was.

While Jesus was always God from before time, Mary was purely human but took on divine nature in Christ in heaven. She is the example to us mere mortals that we can be glorified, body and soul, in heaven. She is then crowned as the queen-mother in heaven, taking her role in eternity beside her son, Christ the King. She is a queen who loves us and leads us to her King.

Both of these feasts are an interpretation of Revelation 9:1, “A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.”

Mary, Queen of Heaven, Pray for us.
