St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Croydon recently issued the following announcement.
Dear Parishioners,
As we get closer to Election Day, our nation is experiencing a great deal of social unrest. In addition to a pandemic and a recession, we face protests, riots, and increased criminal activity. As Catholics we look to our Faith for guidance during these challenging times. Both Scripture and Tradition teaches us that:
• All human beings are made in the image and likeness of God.
*Both racism and race-baiting are serious sins.
*All human life is sacred from the first moment of conception.
*Abortion is a serious sin. No Catholic can support direct abortion either privately or publicly. Over 60 million Americans have been murdered in their mothers’ wombs since abortion was legalized in our country. The United States Conference of Catholics Bishops’ letter of November 2019 states that “the threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives destroyed.”
*All lives matter: white, black, brown, and blue. We should be proud of our race.
• God joined man and woman in the bond of marriage and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply. The nuclear family—husband, wife, and their children-- is the basic building block of our society. According to their mission statement, Blacks Lives Matter seeks to “disrupt” the nuclear family structure. This “disruption” of the nuclear family will increase the likelihood of poverty, criminality, and dependence on the government.
• God created human beings male and female. We need to pray for those who suffer from gender dysphoria and those who struggle with a homosexual orientation. In its mission statement, Black Lives Matter unapologetically promotes gender ideology.
• The Devil is the Father of Lies. Satan likes to sow division, hatred, and violence in nations and families. As Christians we are called to be instruments of God’s peace. Rioting, looting, arson, and murder are never justified. The promotion of justice must always be sought through peaceful means. Our Lady, Queen of Peace and Health of the Sick, pray for us! May God bless America!
