HOLY SPIRIT PARISH: We Belong To God!

Holy Spirit Parish issued the following announcement on September 13.

Our second reading today is from Romans 14: “Brothers and sisters: None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For this is why Christ died and came to life, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.” How comforting it is to know that we belong to God. Certainly not as His property, although He did make us and has every right to own us in that way; but He loves us and does not force His will upon us. How He longs for us to love Him in return and follow Him of our own free will. I believe it is even more comforting to know that we belong to Him in our dying. We are His for eternity! If we believe this, then shouldn’t we live our lives in a way that pleases Him? As we live, let us live to please Him and when we die, let us die to honor Him. Today we will sing a new song that mirrors this reading. It is called “When We Are Living”, a very simple tune composed by Ronald Krisman. I have always loved music and I have always loved the Bible. I have memorized many wonderful verses because of a song. When there is a melody and a rhythm to the words, it sticks in my mind and heart. Perhaps it will for you as well.  —Brenda Kostial
