Saint Thomas More University Parish issued the following announcement on Nov. 24.
Today is the liturgical feast of Pope Saint Clement I.
He is the third successor of Saint Peter and is known as one of the Church's five "Apostolic Fathers", those who provide a direct link between the Apostles and later generations of Church Fathers.
His "First Epistle to the Corinthians" was widely read in the early Church and has been preserved. He promoted charity to heal the divide between laity and clergy saying, "Charity unites us to God. It knows no schism, does not rebel, does all things in concord. In charity all the elect of God have been made perfect.”
He was martyred in either the year 99 or 101.
Saint Clement, pray for an increase in charity in our hearts, that it would be genuine love in us for others. Ask Jesus to make us more like Him each day.
Amen!
