The Diocese of Allentown has been found to be in compliance with national standards to keep children and adults safe from abuse.

According to a press release, the Diocese of Allentown has recently been found to be in complete compliance with federal regulations intended to safeguard children and vulnerable persons from abuse for the 20th year in a row, earning them the 2022 compliance certification.

"Our 20-year record of compliance with these important safety guidelines is a testament to the ongoing commitment here at the Diocese of Allentown, and in our parishes and schools, to create a safe environment for all," Catholic Health and Human Services and Youth Protection secretary Pamela J. Russo said, according to the press release.

The Diocese was investigated by StoneBridge Business Partners on their actions, procedures and policies based on he Charter for Protection of Children and Young People, which was approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2002 and outlines the stringent safety requirements in place at the Diocese, according to the press release.

The Diocese's safety practices include vigilance, education and prevention, as well as prompt and decisive response in the event of an allegation. Clergy, employees and volunteers are required to have background checks before they can become part of the parishes and ministries. The diocese has also considerably improved screening for aspiring priests.
