St. Theresa Church, Hellertown issued the following announcement on September 13.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
One thing this Pandemic is teaching us is the need to be flexible and adaptable. Although none of us like constant change, we recognize that accepting change is necessary in responding to this crisis. New information and new data about the coronavirus require modifications to guidelines and recommendations and changes to procedures, practices, and schedules.
When we resumed public Masses in June, I pointed out that the Sunday Mass Schedule would be revised if circumstances or changes in diocesan guidelines indicated a need for revision.
Attendance at the 5:00 PM Masses on Saturday and Sunday has remained fairly constant, always below the maximum seating capacity. However, attendance at the Sunday Morning Masses has continued to increase, often requiring us to turn people away since we had reached the maximum seating capacity. Maintaining diocesan seating and social distancing guidelines at these Masses are becoming harder and harder.
Consequently, to meet the needs of our Family of Faith, the Sunday Mass Schedule is being revised.
Beginning the first weekend of October, the Sunday Mass Schedule will be 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, and 12:00 Noon. There will still be a 5:00 PM Mass on Saturdays, but there will no longer be a 5:00 PM Mass on Sundays.
In Autumn, as sunset occurs earlier and earlier, there is always a natural shift in attendance from the Saturday evening Mass to the Sunday morning Masses. The revised schedule will help to address this annual shift.
I’m aware that keeping track of all these changes is not easy. I thank you for your understanding and cooperation and for helping to keep each other safe and healthy.
May the Peace of Christ be with You Always,
Father Tauber
