St. Cecilia Church issued the following announcement on Oct. 4.
Dear Parishioners,
Parents, Religious Education has officially begun, but its still not too late to register children for the program. There are 3 options this year: 1) Saturday in person at Beaver; 2) Sunday in person at New Brighton; 3) at home with lots of on-line resources. Educating your child in the Faith is a promise you made God at their baptism. We will help you the best we
know, but the responsibility is yours.
October 4, is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi. Francis's life is an awe-inspiring story of how God can bring someone to conversion and then use them in powerful and holy ways that they could never have imagined. Obviously, this is a big day for our Capuchin Friars who live their life in the model and teaching of St. Francis. They are his brothers in the world still today. As the merger happens, I dearly hope that the Franciscan spirit will be a spiritual foundation for everyone from which we can grow.
October 4, is also the 40th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood, (there are no parties for 40) for which I am deeply grateful. October 4 is also my grandfather's birthdate and I got to celebrate my first Mass on October 5, which was the date of his death. God's love is full of such lovely coincidences.
October is the month of the Holy Rosary. (The Feast Day is October 7.) Running, walking, driving, sitting still or lying in bed; there are no bad places to pray the Rosary.
Last, but by no means least...by now, everyone should remember that October is also pro-life month. Our belief in the sanctity of human life from "the womb to the tomb" is a teaching we cannot forget or take for granted. Pray, pray for this huge issue.
Fr. Bob
