ST. ANDREW THE APOSTLE CHURCH: St. John’s Hospice Casserole Program

St. Andrew the Apostle Church issued the following announcement on Nov. 15.

"Saint John's Hospice seeks to be a community grounded in faith and service where homeless persons find dignity, respect, nourishment and opportunities for new beginnings." Their logo entitled "Christ of the Breadlines" is a black and white image of men standing single file outside. In the middle of the line-up is a tall figure, which is Jesus, also waiting silently. In this woodcutting by Fritz Eichenberg, Christ is dressed in a black cloak, with the profile of His face darkened. A few trickles of light from the winter sun illumine his long hair. The six homeless men are garbed in hats, coats, blankets, some heads downcast, some looking beseechingly at the sky. It makes one think of the passage from Matthew 25:35: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat."

Your help is needed by the men of St. John's Hospice in the form of food service. Please consider joining this ministry. Fully cooked frozen main dish casseroles can be dropped off at the Mason Avenue door to the food pantry on Tuesday, November 24 between 3:00 - 4:00 PM. Please us the aluminum pans and lids found in the entrance of the church. Kindly mark the lid of your casserole with the main ingredients and the date prepared. For further information, please contact the Outreach Office (484-461-4954).
